Donations

Donations to Bike Aid will be used to fund environmental projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.  The goal is to fund a total of 50 environmental projects, each with a grant of $5000 to $10,000. Examples of the types of projects that are eligible to receive support include tree planting, preventing deforestation, small solar, wind and hydro energy grids, clean up of lakes and rivers, reducing plastic use, recycling, and climate change education. Applicants must demonstrate the positive impact on climate change for each project.

Bike Aid will fund environmental projects that are in line with these five Sustainable Development Goals: ( https://sdgs.un.org/ )

Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Climate change education is a vital part of environmental education, education for sustainable development and eco-social competence.  Though education communities are empowered to implement climate change solutions. These include the building and installation of solar grids, bio-gas production, and local recycling.

Affordable and Clean Energy

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Consumption of fossil fuel energy on a large scale has become increasingly harmful to the planet. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we encourage production of cheaper, safer, renewable energy, including solar, wind, hydro and biomass projects to mitigate climate change.

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation

The advancement of technology has birthed eco-friendly solutions and innovations in more developed countries such as electric vehicles. In some parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America however, electric motors may not be the most economical solution at the moment. Other cheaper technological innovations that preserve the ecosystem are encouraged, such as solar panels, micro hydro projects, efficient heating & lighting systems and electric bikes.

Responsible Consumption and Production

Ensure responsible consumption and production patterns

According UN DESA, one person generates four times the amount of electronic waste as is being recycled annually. Products that damage the environment, including chemical fertilizers and single use plastics need to be reduced.   Funding will support innovative ideas and projects that encourage responsible consumption and production patterns, focusing on reduction, reuse and recycling.

Climate Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

With the 2020 global average temperature at 1.2°C above the pre-industrial baseline, the climate crisis continues with greenhouse gas emissions rising rapidly. Urgent action involving governments, industries and civil society is needed to quickly realize the maximum temperature increase of 1.5°C by 2050.  Activists must insist on rapid approval of climate adaptation plans in developing countries, such as improving water and terrestrial ecosystems, adopting renewable energy, recycling and waste management.

We encourage and welcome project proposals that are geared towards positive climate and environmental change.
